How to Protect Your Window Tint During the Hot Summer Months

By Rock Hill Window Tinting | Rock Hill, SC
If you’ve recently had your vehicle or home windows tinted, you’ve made a smart investment in both style and protection. At Rock Hill Window Tinting, we know how intense the South Carolina summer heat can be—and we want to make sure your tint lasts as long as possible while staying in top shape.
Here are some simple, effective tips to help protect your window tint during those scorching summer months:
1. Avoid Rolling Down Newly Tinted Car Windows
After getting your car windows tinted, it’s important to let the film fully cure. In summer, the heat may speed up the process slightly, but we still recommend waiting at least 3 to 5 days before rolling down your windows. Rolling them down too early can cause the tint to peel or bubble.
2. Park in the Shade Whenever Possible
If you can, always try to park in a shaded area, under a carport, or in a garage. Not only does this keep your interior cooler, but it reduces the amount of direct sunlight hitting your window tint, helping prevent fading of window tint and premature wear.
3. Use Sunshades or Window Covers
Adding a sunshade or reflective window cover on your windshield when parked helps protect your tint and your dash from intense UV exposure. For rear windows, consider static cling window covers if you’ll be parked for long periods.
4. Keep Windows Clean — But Use the Right Products
Dirty windows attract more heat. To keep your tint in good condition:
- Use a soft microfiber cloth
- Choose ammonia-free glass cleaner
- Avoid abrasive tools or paper towels that could scratch the tint film
Regular cleaning prevents buildup and helps maintain that fresh, clean look.
5. Be Gentle with Window Edges
When cleaning or wiping your windows, be cautious around the edges of the tint film. Excess moisture or aggressive scrubbing near the film’s edges can lift the tint over time.
6. Watch for Signs of Damage or Bubbling
Summer heat can expose any weaknesses in a poorly installed tint. If you notice bubbling, peeling, or discoloration, bring it in right away. Catching issues early can help you avoid a full replacement.
7. Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals Inside the Vehicle
Some interior cleaners can release vapors that react with the tint adhesive, especially when the heat rises inside your car. Stick with tint-safe cleaners or check with our team for product recommendations.
